How to find YouTube sponsors for a true crime channel (2026)

The eight brands sponsoring the most true crime and mystery channels in the last year, how big those channels are, and how a smaller channel can get in.

By Ilker · 4 min read

True crime and mystery channels get sponsored often, but by a short list of brands that mostly work with established channels. Of the true crime channels with 10K–1M subscribers in the DiscoverSponsors index, 79% had at least one paid sponsor in the last year. Unlike beauty or fitness, though, none of the top eight sponsors has worked with a true crime channel under 35K subscribers.

Why safety and privacy brands love true crime

Look at what the top brands sell: data removal, identity protection, VPNs. A true crime audience has just spent forty minutes hearing how someone was found, followed or defrauded, and a privacy product fits that moment better than almost any other sponsor slot on YouTube. Zocdoc and BetterHelp are audience buys: long, attentive episodes with an adult audience that listens to the end.

Raycon is the other pattern. True crime is often listened to rather than watched, and an earbud brand sponsors the channels people play while commuting.

How a smaller true crime channel gets in

  • Start with the brands that do take mid-size channels. Surfshark has the highest share of partners under 100K in the top eight (27%), and the smallest channel any of them has sponsored is under 40K.
  • Show retention, not just subscribers. These sponsors buy attention; an average view duration of fifteen or twenty minutes on a long episode is a stronger argument than your subscriber count.
  • Look beyond the top eight. Meal kits, home security and podcast-style audio brands also sponsor the niche. The true crime sponsor page lists every brand with the sponsored videos as proof.

Keep the case and the ad apart

Brands in this niche are careful about what their name sits next to. Place the sponsor segment at a clear break, never inside the description of a crime, and tell the brand in your pitch how you handle sensitive cases. That one sentence answers the question their brand-safety team will ask.

For matches ranked by your own channel's size, language and niche, add your channel. For the email itself, see how to pitch a YouTube sponsor.

About the data

Counts are distinct true crime and mystery channels with a paid sponsored video at least 60 seconds long published in the last 12 months, from public video information retrieved through the official YouTube Data API. Affiliate-only links are excluded. The niche is smaller than most in the index, so a few channels can move a brand's rank. Channels with sponsors are easier for us to find, so the share of sponsored channels is an upper bound. A detected sponsorship is not confirmation of contract terms.
